I decided it was time I tried "something new", which in this case, is the initialization of a blog. Don't expect me to say anything particularly illuminating, but I do hope that my ramblings may be of interest to someone along the way.
This is a good time to try "something new" as I am unemployed and have been for over six months. I'm actively looking for work, and I've had a fair number of interviews, but no offers yet.
I've been unemployed before, usually not of my own choice. This time is different. Before, I had the responsibilities of raising my son, having been divorced when he was at a young age, and that pressure weighed heavily on my mind at all times. Now I am 60 - yes, a baby-boomer - my son is married, and he has an independent life with his family. I'm only responsible for myself now! Well, my two cats and dog, too. I also downsized from the family home to a condo prior to being let go of my job, and that has turned out to be the wisest decision I've ever made, since my expenses are much less. And knowing I'm only responsible for myself helps a lot.
Hopefully this is enough of an introduction to give you an idea of where I'm at in this point in my life. The topics I expect to write about will likely include unemployment, job search, single-parenting, challenges in getting older, music, genealogy, social commentary, and whatever else is on my mind at the time I sit down to blog.
